VISION DISORDERS THAT LASIK CAN CORRECT
Nearsightedness, or myopia, prevents patients from focusing clearly on objects that are far away. This occurs because either their cornea is too steep or their eye is too long, which causes light rays to focus before reaching the retina.
Symptoms of Nearsightedness:
• Difficulty seeing distant objects
• Squinting in order to focus
Farsightedness, or hyperopia, prevents patients from seeing near and distance objects clearly because either their corneal curvature is too flat or their eye is too short.
Symptoms of Farsightedness:
• Difficulty seeing objects up close and far away
• Reading vision difficulty
Astigmatism is when the cornea is shaped more like an oval, or a football rather than like a sphere or a basketball.
Symptoms of Astigmatism:
• Both near and distant objects are difficult to see without squinting
• Vision appears blurred or distorted, especially while reading
• A shadow appears next to objects
